Jude Burnett
Solicitor
I am passionate about helping clients who have suffered a clinical negligence. Ensuring clients receive a good outcome and are able to move forward with their lives is always a priority.
Get to know Jude
My journey in law began back in 2018 when I decided to return to university after working as a general nurse for several years within a variety of different areas (including acute medicine and surgery). Five years later, in 2023, I joined Slater and Gordon’s Edinburgh office to complete my second year traineeship and qualified as a solicitor after six months.
Although my practice speciality is clinical negligence, I have experience in other personal injury areas, notably road traffic accidents. I currently have a varied workload, including cases involving misdiagnosis, delayed cancer diagnosis, medication errors, dental injuries and fatal cases. I also regularly assist in high value and complex cases.
My nursing background in the NHS and private practice has been hugely beneficial in my current role. For instance, I have an insight into how healthcare operates and have looked after patients with conditions that I commonly come across in this role.
Career highlights
Each successful settlement is a career highlight. It’s always a privilege to play a role in getting those who have suffered a clinical negligence the help and financial assistance they need during what can be a very difficult time.
I was fortunate to have assisted in a complex birth injury case involving a child with cerebral palsy. Knowing that the compensation would allow the family to live as ‘normal’ a live as they could (i.e. buy a suitably adapted house and go on a dream holiday) is highly rewarding.
The extra mile
I have enjoyed volunteering for a charity called ‘Finding Your Feet’, a charity which aims to provide support to amputees and people suffering from limb differences.
